Ambassador Constancio Pinto, present today letters of credence to President Barack Obama accredited him as Ambassdor Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste to the United States of America.
Ambassador Pinto is the first resident ambassador in Washington, DC. he replaces Ambassador Jose Luis Guterres, current Vice-Prime Minister, who was concurrently accredited to the United Nations and United States from 2003 to 2006.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Kosovo was among Ambassadors presented credentials today.
Timor-Leste has yet to recognize Kosovo's independence, pending the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice.

Ambassador Constancio Pinto currently is the Minister for Commerce,Industry and Environment, prior to this post, Ambassador Pinto served as the Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation and Vice-Minister of Commerce, Industry and Environment of Timor-Leste. He served as Ambassador of Timor-Leste to the United States of America ( Nov. 2009 - August 2012) and to Mexico and Canada from (2011-2012); a leader of Timorese Resistance and author of East Timor Unfinished Struggle.
